Cameron Courthouse

Address:
Courthouse Square, Smith Circle, PO Box 549, Cameron, LA 70631

Just ahead on the north side of the road you will see the white courthouse set back behind oak trees. This steel and concrete structure was built in 1937 as a Depression Era Works Progress Administration project. The WPA was FDR's largest New Deal agency, employing millions to carry out public works projects, including the construction of public buildings such as this courthouse. Like most WPA buildings it was built to last. This sturdy building survived Hurricanes Audrey, Rita and Ike. In fact, many people sought shelter from Audrey in this building. During normal business hours, you might want to stop to use the public restrooms and enjoy the interesting 1930s architecture.
